Joint Treatments

You can greatly benefit from Physiotherapy as we treat a variety of conditions affecting your joints, from rheumatoid/osteoarthritis to joint replacements. Treatment may include joint mobilization, circulatory or draining techniques, and exercise for strengthening surrounding structures.

Sport Injury

At Barker Physio, we will help to identify and understand the cause of your pain and aches through thorough assessment and questionnaires. Through targeted exercises in our well-equipped gym and manual therapy techniques such as myofascial release, strapping, and various electrotherapy modalities, our physios can help reduce pain, inflammation, stiffness, and optimize performance.

Sinus

We will help to facilitate drainage of mucus, reduce swelling, and manage pain. To help treat your sinuses, we may use a variety of techniques in your sessions. This may include nebulization, ultrasound and laser machines, dry needling, and sinus massage. This will “open” the sinuses, loosen secretions, reduce pain, and ensure drainage of fluids.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a very successful treatment, which uses very thin needles without any medication (a dry needle). Dry needling assists with promoting blood flow and healing, reduces muscle tightness, pain, and inflammation, and improves muscle function and relaxation.

Strapping

Strapping is the application of an adhesive tape onto your body in specific directions to help improve your mobility and support your joints, muscles, and tendons. Benefits of strapping include decreased pain and inflammation, improved circulation and posture, promotes healing, and improves overall performance.

Respiratory Conditions

Chest Physiotherapy is a term for a group of treatments designed to improve and promote respiratory efficiency, promote expansion of the lungs, strengthen respiratory muscles, and eliminate secretions from the respiratory system. Our Physiotherapists can treat a wide variety of respiratory conditions. Symptoms may include a cough that may or may not be productive (thick mucus), breathing difficulties, and chest pain.

Headaches

This is a very common symptom that affects many people. There are different types of headaches such as cervicogenic headache (originating from a dysfunction in the neck), migraines, cluster headaches, and tension-type headaches. Most headaches, regardless of their type, can be treated if there is a neck component involved in the contribution to the headache. Our Physiotherapists will use skilled, hands-on manual therapy techniques to help relieve or reduce your headaches significantly.

Post Surgical Treatments

Our physiotherapists have experience in assisting numerous patients undergoing a variety of procedures. Be it a fracture of the bone, a joint replacement, or a ligament repair – Barker Physios have your back! We work with respective surgeons to ensure that you get the best possible outcome. We focus on mobilization, strengthening, and most importantly, your confidence to believe that you can.

Rehabilitation

At Barker Physiotherapists, we pride ourselves on the positive outcome of long-term rehabilitation cases. We are 100% prepared and equipped to embark on what could be a very long journey, and we are delighted to have the honor. We treat a variety of conditions such as Strokes, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson's Disease, and many more. We focus on retraining and maintaining fundamental aspects of the body to ensure that we achieve the highest functional level of independence for our patients.

Chronic Pain Management

Chronic pain is pain that persists beyond the normal healing time of 3-6 months. There are many causes of chronic pain. It may have started from an illness or injury, and even though you have recovered, the pain may persist. Our practice is registered with Discovery’s Spinal Conservative Care Programme and will be able to use their knowledge and skills to assist in managing your pain to adapt to a better quality of life.

Lymphoedema

Lymphoedema is a chronic disease resulting in lymph fluid build-up (swelling) occurring when the lymphatic system is not functioning. It can occur in the arms, legs, or anywhere else in the body. At Barker Physiotherapists, we offer the Combined Decongestive Therapy, which is the gold standard in treating lymphoedema.

Palliative Care

Palliative care aims at optimizing quality of life and treating symptoms/conditions to make patients comfortable as they approach the end of life. This is mostly done in the comfort of the patient’s home or in frail care.

Vertigo

Vertigo is the feeling of being as though you are moving, spinning, or are off balance. There are 2 types of vertigo – central and peripheral. Central vertigo comes from a problem in the brain. Peripheral vertigo is due to a problem in the inner ear. Treatment will depend on the problem.
