Things to bring to your first physio appointment

I'm sure we have all had that uncomfortable experience of going to an appointment with a doctor, or physio, or pretty much any first-time meeting, and just not being sure if we have made all the right preparations.  Which documents must I bring?  What clothes must I wear?  Sometimes this confusion extends to the follow-up consultations too.  Let me help you fix that.

 

This is a quick list of what you might need when you come to see the physio.  You can also use the list to help you think about what you might need when you consult with any other health care provider.

Completed patient info form

Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time so that you can complete the necessary admin.

Clothing that lets you fully expose the relevant body parts.

If you are a runner, also bring your running shoes.

Never be afraid to ask your therapist concerning any aspect of your care.

They will answer what they are able to answer, or put you I touch with a person who is better able to help if required.

List of medications you take

Have an idea of how your condition has changed since your previous consultation.

Remember that your consultations are confidential, so you don't need to feel embarrassed to ask what is on your mind.

Medical aid card

Prepare any specific questions you want the physio to help with.


Proof of ID

Any relevant co-payment fees


Any relevant medical scans or reports

This includes a referral letter if you have one.
