Let's talk about Supplements

It is vital to remember that the best defence that you have against any disease (COVID included) is the quality of your immune system BEFORE you are exposed to the disease.  The more robust your body's own defence mechanisms are, the less likely you are to suffer serious symptoms.  This is best seen as a multi-pronged approach.

 

In previous messages, I have tried to encourage all of our community to pay attention to things that make you positively healthier by doing the simple things:

  • Eating a healthy diet that avoids things that promote inflammation

  • Getting moderate exercise, including strength training

  • Sleeping at least 7 hours a night.


Don't stop doing those extremely effective things. 

However, some people have asked if there is anything that they can take on top of the suggestions above, particularly as regards the current COVID situation.  There are!  Here are a list of 6 supplements that have recently been shown to show a meaningful difference in the development of ‘flu like symptoms in the American state of Ohio.  They are scientifically sound suggestions, based on how they positively affect your immune system.  The researchers (Margolin et al, 2021) found a “large and stark” difference in symptoms between the people who took these supplements and those who didn't.  

 

We offer this list in the interests of empowering each of our patients to actively promote their own metabolic health.  Use them as part of your plan to keep healthy and robust before illness comes.  All of these should be easily and cheaply available without a prescription from your pharmacist.

 

  • Zinc

  • Zinc Ionophores (Quina, Quercetin, Quinine)

  • Vitamin C

  • Vitamin D (Esp D3)

  • Vitamin E
